How to Drape the Union Flag

I'm sometimes asked what the correct way to drape the Union flag over a coffin is, so this is it: Place the flag so that the top-left corner of the flag is over the deceased's left shoulder, as in the photograph. I have the Union flag in two sizes, the standard 8 ft x 5 ins that is suitable for when inside a hearse, and a large 12 ft x 6 ins version often used for open-top funerals. The latter was made for me by the flag maker to His Majesty King Charles III. When using the large flag I place the standard flag below it, so just before the bearers take control of the coffin, it can be removed so that it doesn't impinge on the bearers, and they can bear with the standard flag in place.
